It was a year ago at this time, that War of Will was in between the two most important races of his career. He was a week removed from being involved in the bumping incident that led to Maximum Security being disqualified from first in the Kentucky Derby. He was also a week away from winning the Preakness. On Saturday, in his first start since a weak effort in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, War of Will will make his first start in six months on turf facing a tough group of stakes foes from a tricky post that should test him after a layoff.

The $75,000 Sunshine Forever Stakes, Gulfstream Park, Saturday, Race 9.

(6) Halladay dropped from 3-1 to 2-1 and posted a frontrunning win in his last start despite fast fractions. Trained by Pletcher, he could be tough to catch here. (4) Aquaphobia comes off a nice fourth in a Grade 2 stakes at Fair Grounds and should be a danger in the final furlong. (9) Social Paranoia was a fast-closing winner of his 2020 debut and should not be ignored. (11) Admission Office was a game second to Zulu Alpha but has a tough post. (12) War of Will was Grade 1-placed on turf as a 2-year-old but the post and layoff make him a risky proposition.
