A renaissance of some great betting opportunities

With the much-welcomed return of racing across the nation, there’s been a renaissance of some great betting opportunities across the nation. While purses have been slashed, fields are bigger and better across the board, creating the potential for some better than normal payouts. Let’s see if we can find two of them on Saturday’s card at Churchill Downs.

The $100,000 Blame Stakes, Churchill Downs, Saturday, Race 9.

(8) Owendale made a nice living feasting on the small-time Derbies last year but ended the year with a good second in the Clark Handicap against older horses. He’s been idle for six months, but trainer Brad Cox has been pleased with his progress and he gets the call here. (13) Mr. Money fizzled on a wet track at Oaklawn but should bounce back here. (3) Global Campaign was an impressive winner after a nine-month layoff and seems for another big effort. (14) Diamond King has class and consistency but faces a tough task from post 14.

The $100,000 War Chant Stakes, Churchill Downs, Saturday, Race 11

(1) South Bend has been the victim of bad racing luck in his last few starts. Today he gets the rail and is re-united with Leparoux. That could be a winning combination. (5) Field Pass beat the top pick in their last meeting and looks like the one to fear. (13) Billy Batts was clobbered by international competition in Saudi Arabia, but could shine here. (6) Hieronymus has plenty of speed and might be tough to catch.
