Talented Chad Brown trio tops the Wild Applause at Belmont Park

By New York Hot List Staff

Chad Brown, the leading trainer at the current Belmont Park meeting, will send a trio of talented 3-year-old fillies to the gate for the $100,000 Wild Applause which will be run at a mile on the Widener (outer) turf course.

Blowout is the 2-1 morning line favorite even though she has only one victory thus far for Brown. She won her debut in January at Tampa and followed that with a narrow defeat in the Florida Oaks (G2) to Concrete Rose, who then went on to beat Newspaperofrecord. Next at Aqueduct, she lost to Feel Glorious in the Memories of Silver after getting bumped and stumbling badly in the stretch.

Nova Sol, who is Brown’s 5-2 second choice, made her American debut in the Hilltop Stakes at Pimlico after racing in France as a 2-year-old. After a very poor start, she rallied from last, some 15-lengths behind to finish second.

The third Brown runner is Seek and Destroy, the winner of three races in a row including her 2019 debut in the Grade 3 Soaring Softly at Belmont Park in May.

If any horse is going to upset the Chad Brown runners, it is the British-import Feel Glorious who is trained by Christophe Clement. He has already faced Seek and Destroy and Blowout.

“I’m very happy with my filly and she’s been training very well since she came from Europe and has been improving all the time,” Clement said. “She’s been training forwardly since her last race. It’s a nice stakes with good competition, so it should be good.”

Although six fillies are entered, trainer Mark Casse said that he is likely to scratch Wings of Dawn with an eye on the $250,000 Mother Goose (G2) next weekend at Belmont.

Carded as race 9, the Wild Applause has an approximate post time of 5:51 p.m. ET. First post time for Saturday’s 10-race card is set for 1:30 p.m.

This Saturday’s Cross Country Pick 5 combines races from Belmont Park and Monmouth Park. The 50¢ wager ends with race 10 from Belmont which is part of Saturday’s New York Hot List analysis which is available on this website free of charge.
