New York-bred Kept True tackles the Correction at Aqueduct

By New York Hot List Staff

A field of seven was drawn for Saturday’s six-furlong $100,000 Correction Stakes at Aqueduct. The Jonathan Thomas trainee Bridlewood Cat was named the 8-5 morning line favorite, but with only four career races to date she will face far more experienced horses.

The New York-bred Kept True is in fine form with two wins in her last three starts against state-breds at Aqueduct. The 9-5 morning line second choice is trained by Leah Gyarmati. In her most recent start last month, she pressed the early pace and then drew off to win the Broadway by three-lengths while earning her career best speed figure.

“Last out, she ran very well. Now is as good a time as any to try and put her up against open company,” Gyarmati said. “Six [furlongs] is better than seven, although she is maturing and getting more patient, so maybe she’ll be more versatile. Right now, six furlongs is perfect.”

Piedi Bianchi, who is 5-2 on the morning line, won her a second-level allowance at the Big A in her first start for trainer Carlos Martin after a year away from the races.

Previously trained by Todd Pletcher and before him by Doug O’Neill, the 5-year-old mare is the leading money earner in the field and has trio of top 3 finishes in graded stakes races.

“She came to me in excellent condition,” Martin said. “The filly was a little worn out after last year, so the owners gave her plenty of time to recoup. [Farm trainer] Destin Heath and his crew over at WinStar Farm did an excellent job with her while she was there. I was able to nurse her back and she’s never taken a bad step for us. Her last race was a huge one off the layoff and the sheet numbers were fantastic. She’s been training forwardly, and we should see another big race out of her.”

In that comeback victory, she cut back in distance to sprinting three-quarters of a mile and she rallied from a stalking position to earn a top speed figure. There is plenty of speed in this field to once again set up her closing move.

The Correction is the middle leg of the Special Saturday Pick 3 from the New York Hot List team. Full picks and analysis of the Saturday action from the New York Hot List is available free of charge on this website.

The Correction is scheduled as race 8 on Saturday’s nine-race card. First post is 1:30 p.m. ET.
