Maximum Security makes his first New York start in the Bold Ruler at Belmont Park
By the New York Hot List Staff
Leading 3-year-old Maximum Security returns to the races and makes his first New York start in the seven-furlong $200,00 Bold Ruler (G3) at Belmont Park. The field of eight is loaded with graded stakes winners as he faces older horses for the first time.
Maximum Security was installed as the 1-1 morning line favorite based on his career record of 7: 5-1-0 which includes official victories in the Florida Derby (G1) and the Haskell (G1). The son of New Year’s Day went from his first win in a $16,000 maiden claiming race to making history as the first horse ever to be disqualified after winning the Kentucky Derby (G1).
The Jason Servis trainee had to scratch from the Pennsylvania Derby last month due to a minor bout of colic. He recently moved Maximum Security from his Monmouth Park base to Belmont Park to make final preparations for the Bold Ruler.
He will race around one-turn for the first time since he romped in a seven-furlong allowance at Gulfstream Park in February.
“I like the cut back. He’s won at this distance,” said Servis. “All systems are go.”
Maximum Security will face an accomplished group of older horses. Tale of Silence [15-1] won the Westchester (G3) in last year. True Timber [8-1] ran second in the Cigar Mile (G1) and third in the recent Kelso (G2). Knicks Go [30-1] took down the Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland in 2018. Killybegs Captain [8-1] has a recent victory in the DeFrancis (G3) at Laurel. Diamond King [8-1] hit the board in a series of graded stakes races and Prince Lucky [3-1] won the Gulfstream Park Mile (G2) back in the Spring.
The Bold Ruler is slated as Race 8 on Saturday’s 10-race card with post-time scheduled for 4:40 pm ET.
