Special Saturday Pick 3 at Oaklawn Park includes the Arkansas Derby
By New York Hot List Staff
Belmont Park was scheduled to open on April 24, but racing is still on hold in New York. Thus, the New York Hot List team would like to offer the Special Saturday Pick 3 on graded stakes races in the final card at the Oaklawn Park Spring meeting. The sequence of races 11-13 includes both divisions of the Arkansas Derby (G1) and the Oaklawn Handicap (G2).
Arkansas Derby, division 1 – race 11 – 6:29 p.m. ET – Bob Baffert’s Charlatan is a standout based on his impressive performances in his first two starts. He earned the two highest Beyer Speed Figures of the year for all 3-year-olds. The son of Speightstown is likely to lead the nine furlongs every step of the way.
Oaklawn Handicap – race 12 – 7:04 p.m. ET – A full field of 14 older male dirt horses was entered for this mile and an eighth Grade 2 race. This is a talented field with many horses that are in excellent form right now, so seven horses will be used in the Pick 3 with the hope that the winner will come at higher odds.
Arkansas Derby, division 2 – race 13 – 7:43 p.m. ET – Division 2 drew a much harder field where the top three betting choices come into the race after impressive victories in their most recent starts. Each of those wins came while racing as part of the early pace. Those three must be used in the Pick 3, but basic handicapping says that the pace may provide an ideal set-up for a late runner and a chance at the winner having better odds.
$1 Special Saturday Pick 3 on races 11-13 at Oaklawn Park – 1 with 2, 4, 6, 7, 9, 12, 13 with 4, 5, 10, 11 = $28
